Relieved at my desk,
No more swinging of the axe.
I still have a job!

Buried under clothes,
Weekend to do the laundry.

Fall cleaning is here!

Unpack my sweaters,

Pull winter coats from storage.
Hooray for the cold!

Poem in on time:
Not a slacker anymore!
Not my best work though…

Had a busy day,
Still managed to slack off some.
I feel slightly bad.

House all to myself,
Unless my roommate comes home.
Here’s hoping she won’t…

Day has been shitty,

More stresses than I wanted,

Thank God it’s Friday.

My boss is way cool.

“Let’s party!” She says at three,

Raiding the beer stash.

Day just got better.

Budweiser is the answer.

Drinking solves problems.

Twirling, spinning, dizzy
in the clouds of daytime drugs.
Hazy, fuzzy, stuffed
full of cottony soft padding.
Mind slipping, heart dipping
head shimmers with the heat of cold fever.

If my body could but recover,
my mind relax from the after-effects
of this hard-hitting stress-fest…
The world would right itself again,
and the wobble would even out, straight and narrow.

But maybe with a little…twist.

Busy, busy, bee;
Travel for you means more work
for me; please come back!

Everyone left me,
So why wasn’t this a breeze?
Not one moment free.

Wish I could leave soon,

But I’ve still so much to do!
Leave it for Monday?

Firm-funded drinking
is the best on a Friday.
Giddy at my desk.

Driving south tonight,
Traffic is going to suck.

Why do I do this?

So much work to do.
Was running around all day.
Still not done. Dammit!

Man of leisure,

I envy you.

Eternal sloth,

Comfort is your uniform.

Nothing leads to nothing,

You always reach your destination.

Man of leisure,

I envy you.

Jack of hobbies,

None you need to master.

Time spent fruitlessly,

Accomplishing all you set out too.

Man of leisure,

I envy you.

Morning till night,

Nothing is needed.

A man of excess,

All of life is an option.

Office smells like beans
Someone’s idea of lunch
I’d rather not

Your hold music sucks
I’ve called you five times today
You torture me so…

You have no status
You’re stuck in the back my friend
Your miles aren’t worth shit

…August 22, 2008 (a conversation)

DJ Nezz: I’m impressed by your poetic abilities.  Have you ever considered Def Jam Poetry?
Essaytch: No. I couldn’t do that! That would be terrifying….
DJ Nezz: Anytime you want to practice, I’ll beat-box for you.
Essaytch: Maybe I could write poetry. It’s just stringing together random words in a quasi-related way:

Purple Elephants and Sunbeams:
Did you ever bring those stories, Mother?
In the summers of my misspent youth…
I ran for your love and was

Lost
in
space.

DJ Nezz: You know what is great about poetry….it is easy and fun to make up REALLY awful stuff.

The silver lined clouds of my depression

churn viciously on the horizon

Vague Happiness playing peek-a-boo

as my soul cries silent tears,

watering the blossoms of my longing.
